First, a few words about Hotmail.co.uk

Outlook.com is a personal information manager web app from Microsoft consisting of webmail, calendaring, contacts, and tasks services. Founded in 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith as Hotmail, it was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million and relaunched as MSN Hotmail, later rebranded to Windows Live Hotmail as part of the Windows Live suite of products. Microsoft phased out Hotmail in October 2011, relaunching the service as Outlook.com in 2012. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlook.com

Configuring Hotmail.co.uk

It is possible that the Mail app will find the email configuration automatically then set up your account. Apply the following steps first in order to find out if it will:

  1. Go to Settings > Mail and tap Accounts.
  2. Click Add Account > Other, and click Add Mail Account.
  3. Type your name, your email address, your password and a description for account.
  4. Click Next. Mail should now try to find the email settings and finish your account setup. If Mail finds the email configuration, tap Done to complete your setup.

In case the Mail app couldn't automatically set up your account, it means that you will need to enter them yourself. I think you may find the table below useful:

Settings Needed for Receiving E-mail via IMAP

Server Hostnameimap-mail.outlook.com
Server Port993
UsernameYour username (do not include the part after the @ sign)
AuthenticationPassword
SSL/TLSYes

Outgoing E-mail Configuration (using SMTP)

Server Hostnamesmtp-mail.outlook.com
Server Port587
UsernameYour username (do not include the part after the @ sign)
AuthenticationPassword
SSL/TLSYes

Tap Next, then follow these steps:

  1. Select IMAP or POP. If you aren't certain which one to opt for, contact Hotmail.co.uk.
  2. Type the details (You might have a look at the table above) for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Then tap Next
  3. If your mail settings are correct, tap Save to complete the setup. If the email setup is incorrect, Mail will ask you to modify those settings.
  4. If you still are not able to set up the account or save your settings, contact the provider.
