Configuring Yahoo! for an iOS Device
With this blog I will simply summarize how to setup Yahoo! using IMAP and SMTP in a straightforward fashion.
What is Yahoo!:
Yahoo! Mail is an email service launched on October 8, 1997, by the American company Yahoo, Inc. It offers four different email plans: three for personal use (Basic, Plus, and Ad Free) and another for businesses. As of January 2020, Yahoo! Mail has 225 million users. Users are able to access and manage their mailboxes using webmail interface, accessible using a standard web browser. Some accounts also supported the use of standard mail protocols (POP3 and SMTP). Since 2015, users can also connect non-Yahoo e-mail accounts to the webmail client. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Mail
Configuring Yahoo!:
Mail app can find your parameters automatically, and configure your account. Follow these steps in order to find out if that is possible:
- Go to Settings > Mail and click Accounts.
- Tap Add Account, tap Other, then click Add Mail Account.
- Type your name (can be any name), your email address, your password with a description for account
- Tap Next. Mail should now try to find the email parameters and finish setting your account. If the Mail app finds your email settings, tap Done to complete your setup.
In case the Mail app couldn't automatically set up your account, then you will have to enter them manually. I think you may need the following information:
Setup Needed for Receiving Mail with IMAP
Server Hostname | imap.mail.yahoo.com |
Server Port | 993 |
Username | Your username (do not include the part after the @ sign) |
Authentication | Password |
SSL/TLS | Yes |
Settings Needed for Sending Email
Server Hostname | smtp.mail.yahoo.com |
Server Port | 465 |
Username | Your username (do not include the part after the @ sign) |
Authentication | Password |
SSL/TLS | Yes |
Tap Next, then follow these steps:
- Select IMAP or POP If you aren't sure which one to choose, contact Yahoo!.
- Type in the details (You might want to have a look at the table above) for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Then tap Next
- If your mail settings are correct, click Save to finish the setup. If your email settings are incorrect, Mail will ask you to modify them.
- In case you still can't setup the account, or save the settings, contact the e-mail provider.
