Configuring Yahoo.ca for your iPad/iPhone
With this article we will demonstrate setting up Yahoo.ca using IMAP and SMTP in a simple language.
First, a few words about Yahoo.ca:
Yahoo! Mail is an email service launched on October 8, 1997, by the American company Yahoo, Inc. It offers four different email plans: three for personal use (Basic, Plus, and Ad Free) and another for businesses. As of January 2020, Yahoo! Mail has 225 million users. Users are able to access and manage their mailboxes using webmail interface, accessible using a standard web browser. Some accounts also supported the use of standard mail protocols (POP3 and SMTP). Since 2015, users can also connect non-Yahoo e-mail accounts to the webmail client. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Mail
Setting up Yahoo.ca:
Mail app may find the email configuration automatically and complete setting up your account. Apply these steps to find out if that is possible:
- Go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts.
- Click Add Account, tap Other then click Add Mail Account
- Type in your name (can be any name), email address, password and a description for account.
- Tap Next. The Mail app should now try and find the e-mail configuration and finish your account setup. If the Mail app finds your email settings, click Done to finish your setup.
In case Mail can't automatically set up your account, then you have to enter them yourself. You will find the table below useful:
Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) Configuration
Server Hostname | imap.mail.yahoo.com |
Server Port | 993 |
Username | Your username (do not include the part after the @ sign) |
Authentication | Password |
SSL/TLS | Yes |
Settings Needed for Sending Mail (via SMTP)
Server Hostname | smtp.mail.yahoo.com |
Server Port | 465 |
Username | Your username (do not include the part after the @ sign) |
Authentication | Password |
SSL/TLS | Yes |
Tap Next, then follow these steps:
- Select either IMAP or POP for your new account. If you don't know which one to choose, contact Yahoo.ca
- Enter the required information (You might want to take a look at the table above) for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Then click Next
- If your e-mail setup is correct, tap Save to complete . If the email setup is incorrect, the Mail app will ask you to modify the configuration.
- In case you still can't set up your email account, or save your e-mail settings, contact your email provider.
