Configuring columbia.edu for your Android Phone

With this blog we will try to teach you setting up columbia.edu using IMAP and SMTP for an Android Tablet in an easy to follow language!

Configuring columbia.edu:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Incoming E-mail Server Settings

  1. Choose the type of email account (either POP3 or IMAP) you want to use. Some services may not support both options. Refer to the table below for available protocols.
    • IMAP keeps the mails on the server, but it will display a cached copy on your Android phone. IMAP is recommended for almost all users.
    • POP3 downloads the e-mails from the remote server and it will keep them on your Android device.
  2. Enter the password for your e-mail account and click Next.
  3. Please refer to the table below in order to complete the Incoming Server Settings settings.
  4. Now tap Next. If there is an error, click the Edit Settings button.

Settings Needed for Sending Mail (via SMTP)

  1. Once the settings are typed in, you can tap Next.
  2. Select Require sign-in
  3. Use the following table to complete the Outgoing Server Settings settings.
  4. Tap Next. If there is an error, click the Edit Settings button.
