Configuring f-m.fm for an Android Phone

With this post we will simply demonstrate how to set up f-m.fm using IMAP and SMTP for your Android Phone in an easy to follow language!

First, a few words about f-m.fm:

Fastmail is an email hosting company based in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to its Fastmail-branded services, the company also operates Topicbox, a mailing list service, and Pobox, an email service it acquired in 2015. The company was acquired by Opera Software in 2010 but became independent again in 2013 through a staff buyout. Its servers are located in Bridgewater, New Jersey and Seattle, Washington. Configuring f-m.fm:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Incoming E-mail Settings

  1. Choose the type of e-mail account (either POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Not all services support both. You may want to refer to the information below for available parameters.
    • IMAP protocol will keep the emails on the server but it will show a copy on your device. IMAP is recommended for almost all users.
    • POP3 downloads the emails from the remote server and it will keep them on your Android phone.
  2. Type the password for your e-mail address and tap Next.
  3. Refer to the following information to complete the Incoming Server Settings page.
  4. Tap Next. If there is an error, tap Edit Settings.

Outgoing Mail Setup

  1. Once the parameters are filled in, you can tap Next.
  2. Select Require sign-in
  3. Refer to the information below to complete the Outgoing Server Settings.
  4. Tap Next. If you see an error, tap the Edit Settings button.
