How to set up fastmail.fm for your Samsung Galaxy (Android)

In this article I will simply summarize setting up fastmail.fm using IMAP and SMTP for a Samsung Galaxy (Android) in a straightforward way.

History of fastmail.fm:

Fastmail is an email hosting company based in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to its Fastmail-branded services, the company also operates Topicbox, a mailing list service, and Pobox, an email service it acquired in 2015. The company was acquired by Opera Software in 2010 but became independent again in 2013 through a staff buyout. Its servers are located in Bridgewater, New Jersey and Seattle, Washington. Configuring fastmail.fm:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Incoming Mail Server Settings

  1. Select the type of mail account (POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Not all services support both! Please see the table below for available protocols.
    • IMAP protocol keeps the emails on the server and it will display a cached copy on your device. IMAP is the recommended setting for most users.
    • POP3 downloads the emails from the server and it will keep them on your Android phone.
  2. Type in the passphrase for your mail address and click Next.
  3. Refer to the table below to complete the Incoming Server Settings.
  4. Now click Next. If you see an error, tap the Edit Settings button.

Configuration Required for Sending Email (via SMTP)

  1. After you type the parameters, you can tap Next.
  2. Turn on Require sign-in
  3. Please use the table below in order to complete the Outgoing Server Settings.
  4. Now click Next. If you see an error, click the Edit Settings button.
