How to configure Fastmail.im for an Android Device

With this post we will simply explain configuring Fastmail.im using IMAP and SMTP for your Android Tablet in a simple language.

What is Fastmail.im:

Fastmail is an email hosting company based in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to its Fastmail-branded services, the company also operates Topicbox, a mailing list service, and Pobox, an email service it acquired in 2015. The company was acquired by Opera Software in 2010 but became independent again in 2013 through a staff buyout. Its servers are located in Bridgewater, New Jersey and Seattle, Washington. Setting up Fastmail.im:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Incoming E-mail Settings

  1. Choose the type of e-mail account (either POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Some services may not provide both options. Refer to the information below for available parameters.
    • IMAP protocol keeps the mails on the server, and it will display a cached copy on your device. IMAP is recommended for most users.
    • POP3 downloads the emails from the server and it will store them on your Android phone.
  2. Type in the password for the mail address and tap Next.
  3. Refer to the table below in order to complete the Incoming Server Settings settings.
  4. Click Next. If you see an error, tap the Edit Settings button.

Settings Required for Sending Email (via SMTP)

  1. Once the parameters are entered, you can tap Next.
  2. Check Require sign-in
  3. Use the table below to complete the Outgoing Server Settings page.
  4. Now tap Next. If there is an error, tap Edit Settings.
