Setting up Gmu.edu for a Samsung Galaxy (Android)

In this post I will simply demonstrate configuring Gmu.edu with IMAP and SMTP for your Android Device in an easy to follow way!

Setting up Gmu.edu

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Configuration Needed for Receiving Email

  1. Select the type of e-mail account (POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Not all services provide both options. Please refer to the table below for available parameters.
    • IMAP keeps the mails on the server but it will keep a cached copy on your Android device. IMAP is recommended in almost all cases.
    • POP3 will download the mails from the server and it will store them on your Android device.
  2. Type the passphrase for the mail address and click Next.
  3. Please refer to the information below to complete the Incoming Server Settings page.
  4. Click Next. If there is an error, tap the Edit Settings button.

Outgoing Mail Server Configuration (via SMTP)

  1. Once the settings are filled in, you can click Next.
  2. Enable Require sign-in
  3. Please use the following information in order to complete the Outgoing Server Settings.
  4. Click Next. If there is an error, click the Edit Settings button.
