Setting up mail-central.com for an Android Tablet

In this post we will simply explain how to setup mail-central.com using IMAP and SMTP for an Android Tablet in a simple way.

Fastmail is an email hosting company based in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to its Fastmail-branded services, the company also operates Topicbox, a mailing list service, and Pobox, an email service it acquired in 2015. The company was acquired by Opera Software in 2010 but became independent again in 2013 through a staff buyout. Its servers are located in Bridgewater, New Jersey and Seattle, Washington. Configuring mail-central.com:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Settings Required for Receiving Mail

  1. Select the type of e-mail account (either POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Some services may not support both! Refer to the information below for the correct protocols.
    • IMAP protocol will keep the emails on the server, but it will keep a cached copy on your Android phone. IMAP is recommended in most cases.
    • POP3 downloads the emails from the server and it will store them on your Android device.
  2. Type the passphrase for your mail account and tap Next.
  3. Please refer to the following table to complete the Incoming Server Settings.
  4. Tap Next. If you see an error, click the Edit Settings button.

Configuration Required for Sending Email (using SMTP)

  1. After you type the settings, tap Next.
  2. Turn on Require sign-in
  3. Refer to the information below to complete the Outgoing Server Settings settings.
  4. Now tap Next. If there is an error, tap Edit Settings.
