Setting up Optusnet.com.au for a Samsung Galaxy (Android)

In this blog I will simply summarize configuring Optusnet.com.au with IMAP and SMTP for your Android Tablet in an easy to follow language.

Configuring Optusnet.com.au

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Settings Needed for Receiving Mail

  1. Select the type of email account (POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Not all services provide both options. Refer to the information below for possible settings.
    • IMAP protocol will store the mails on the server and it will display a copy on your Android device. IMAP is recommended for almost all users.
    • POP3 downloads the emails from the remote server and it will keep them on your Android phone.
  2. Type the password for the mail address and click Next.
  3. Please see the following information in order to complete the Incoming Server Settings settings.
  4. Click Next. If there is an error, tap the Edit Settings button.

Outgoing E-mail Server Configuration (using SMTP)

  1. Once the settings are filled in, you can click Next.
  2. Turn on Require sign-in
  3. Please see the information below in order to complete the Outgoing Server Settings settings.
  4. Tap Next. If you see an error, tap the Edit Settings button.
