Configuring Outlook.com for an iOS Device
With this blog I will simply teach you how to configure Outlook.com using IMAP and SMTP in a straightforward fashion.
What is Outlook.com:
Outlook.com is a personal information manager web app from Microsoft consisting of webmail, calendaring, contacts, and tasks services. Founded in 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith as Hotmail, it was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million and relaunched as MSN Hotmail, later rebranded to Windows Live Hotmail as part of the Windows Live suite of products. Microsoft phased out Hotmail in October 2011, relaunching the service as Outlook.com in 2012. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlook.com
Configuring Outlook.com:
It is possible that the Mail app will find your e-mail settings itself, and set up your account. Follow these steps first to try:
- Go to Settings > Mail and click Accounts
- Tap Add Account > Other, then tap Add Mail Account.
- Type in your name (can be any name), your email address, password with a description for account.
- Tap Next. The Mail app will now try and find the mail configuration and finish setting your account. If Mail finds the e-mail settings, tap Done to complete your setup.
In case the Mail app couldn't find your mail configuration, then you have to enter them manually. I think you will need the following information:
Incoming E-mail (IMAP) Settings
Server Hostname | imap-mail.outlook.com |
Server Port | 993 |
Username | Your username (do not include the part after the @ sign) |
Authentication | Password |
SSL/TLS | Yes |
Outgoing E-mail Settings (using SMTP)
Server Hostname | smtp-mail.outlook.com |
Server Port | 587 |
Username | Your username (do not include the part after the @ sign) |
Authentication | Password |
SSL/TLS | Yes |
Tap Next, then follow these steps:
- Select IMAP or POP If you are not sure which one to select, contact Outlook.com.
- Enter the required details (You may want to have a look at the table above) for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Then tap Next
- If your mail setup is correct, click Save to finish the setup. If your mail settings are incorrect, you will be asked to edit those settings.
- In case you still can't setup your account, or store your settings, contact Outlook.com.
