How to set up Windowslive.com for an Android Tablet

In this blog I will simply teach you setting up Windowslive.com with IMAP and SMTP for an Android Tablet in a simple fashion.

Configuring Windowslive.com

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Configuration Needed for Receiving Mail

  1. Select the type of email account (POP3 or IMAP) you will use. Some services may not provide both protocols. Refer to the information below for the correct protocols.
    • IMAP protocol will store the e-mails on the server but it will show a cached copy on your Android phone. IMAP is the recommended setting for most users.
    • POP3 will download the e-mails from the remote server and it will keep them on your Android device.
  2. Enter the password for the email account and click Next.
  3. Refer to the table below to complete the Incoming Server Settings settings.
  4. Tap Next. If you see an error, click Edit Settings.

Outgoing E-mail Configuration (via SMTP)

  1. After you type in the settings, tap Next.
  2. Select Require sign-in
  3. Use the following information to complete the Outgoing Server Settings page.
  4. Now tap Next. If there is an error, click Edit Settings.
