How to set up Yahoo! Japan for an iOS Device
In this blog I will simply explain how to configure Yahoo! Japan with IMAP and SMTP in a simple language.
History of Yahoo! Japan
Yahoo! Mail is an email service launched on October 8, 1997, by the American company Yahoo, Inc. It offers four different email plans: three for personal use (Basic, Plus, and Ad Free) and another for businesses. As of January 2020, Yahoo! Mail has 225 million users. Users are able to access and manage their mailboxes using webmail interface, accessible using a standard web browser. Some accounts also supported the use of standard mail protocols (POP3 and SMTP). Since 2015, users can also connect non-Yahoo e-mail accounts to the webmail client. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Mail
Configuring Yahoo! Japan
It is possible that the Mail app will find your e-mail settings itself then configure your account. Follow these steps first in order to try:
- Open Settings, then Mail and click Accounts
- Tap Add Account, click Other and tap Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name (can be any name), email address, password then a description for account
- Tap Next. The Mail app should now try and find the email settings and complete your account setup. If Mail finds your e-mail settings, click Done to finish your account setup.
If the Mail app didn't find your mail configuration, then you need to enter them yourself. You will need the following information:

SSL/TLS | Yes |
Tap Next, then follow these steps:
- Choose IMAP or POP If you don't know which one to select, contact Yahoo! Japan
- Type the required details (You will want to take a look at the table above) for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Then click Next.
- If your e-mail configuration is correct, tap Save to complete . If the email configuration is incorrect, you'll be asked to edit the configuration.
- In case you still aren't able to configure your email account, or store your email settings, contact Yahoo! Japan.
