Setting up berkeley.edu for your Android Device

In this article we will explain how to setup berkeley.edu with IMAP and SMTP for a Samsung Galaxy (Android) in a straightforward way.

How to set up berkeley.edu:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Incoming Email Settings

  1. Select the type of mail account (either POP3 or IMAP) you will be using. Some services may not support both. Please refer to the table below for possible settings.
    • IMAP will store the e-mails on the server, and it will display a copy on your Android phone. IMAP is recommended in most cases.
    • POP3 downloads the mails from the remote server and it will keep them on your Android phone.
  2. Type in the password for your email account and tap Next.
  3. Please use the following information in order to complete the Incoming Server Settings.
  4. Now tap Next. If you see an error, click the Edit Settings button.

Outgoing E-mail Setup (via SMTP)

  1. After you type the parameters, tap Next.
  2. Select Require sign-in
  3. Please see the information below in order to complete the Outgoing Server Settings.
  4. Now click Next. If you see an error, tap Edit Settings.
