Configuring Hotmail for your Android Phone

What is Hotmail:

Outlook.com is a personal information manager web app from Microsoft consisting of webmail, calendaring, contacts, and tasks services. Founded in 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith as Hotmail, it was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million and relaunched as MSN Hotmail, later rebranded to Windows Live Hotmail as part of the Windows Live suite of products. Configuring Hotmail:

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app.
2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
3. Tap Add another account.
4. Choose the type of account you want to add:
   • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
   • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
5. Enter your email address and tap Next.

Configuration Required for Receiving Mail

1. Choose the type of email account (either POP3 or IMAP) you want to use. Some services may not provide both. Please check out the information below for possible settings.
   • IMAP stores the e-mails on the server, and it will show a copy on your Android phone. IMAP is the recommended protocol in most cases.
   • POP3 will download the mails from the server and it will store them on your Android device.
2. Type the password for your email account and click Next.
3. Please see the following information to complete the Incoming Server Settings.
4. Tap Next. If there is an error, tap Edit Settings.

Outgoing Mail Configuration

1. After you type in the parameters, you can tap Next.
2. Turn on Require sign-in
3. Refer to the following table to complete the Outgoing Server Settings settings.
4. Now click Next. If you see an error, click the Edit Settings button.
